The Heart and Soul Cafe on the main street in Pinedale, Wyoming is a mandatory pre-hike breakfast stop for any Wind River Range backpacking trip. A hearty bacon, egg, and hash brown breakfast the morning before starting a backpacking trip is one of my greatest pleasures in life. It also gets the trip started on the right track, calorie-wise. Their version of my favorite breakfast is great!

Location of the Cafe
The Heart and Soul Cafe is located on Pinedale’s main street right in the center of town. If you’re staying in Pinedale or simply driving through you can’t miss it. Their big, bright yellow and red sign doesn’t hurt their visibility either! Making the location even more perfect is that the back entrance is directly across the street from our beloved Log Cabin Motel.
A Happy Breakfast Place (They serve Lunch too)
One of the things I like most about the Heart and Soul is the interior brightness, color, and decor. You can’t help but be happy there. The walls are painted bright yellow, just like the restaurant’s exterior sign. The walls are covered with art depicting drive-in restaurant scenes from an earlier time. The large menu listing all the food options is also colorful.
Ordering is done at the counter, and the server brings your food to the table. The food has been consistently excellent. The bacon is crisp, the eggs fluffy and not over-cooked, the hash browns crispy on the outside, and well-seasoned. The sourdough bread was tasty, and the jam they served it with seemed homemade—the perfect pre-hike breakfast.
Conclusion
I’ve now made three backpacking trips to the Wind River Range. The Heart and Soul Cafe has been our pre-hike breakfast stop before each of those hikes. It has always provided us with a great breakfast before our hikes. The atmosphere is uplifting and comfortable. If you are ever in Pinedale, I recommend stopping at the Heart and Soul for breakfast.
